Death of legendary Soumitra Chatterjee is a colossal loss to the world of cinema. It marks the end of an era for Bengali cinema. He excelled both in cinema and theatre alike.

The all-time great has left a void difficult to fill. Soumitra da encapsulated and epitomized the essence of pristine Bengali sensibilities, emotions, culture and ethos. His rich legacy will be ever cherished and would inspire and motivate millions.

Soumitra da was much beyond the Honours and recognitions he got in his life, including being conferred with the Legion of Honor, the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, Padma Bhushan, amongst many more.

I express my deep condolences to the family members, friends and millions of his admirers all over the globe and pray ALMIGHTY to bestow eternal peace on the departed soul.
